Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia. I don’t even know where to start this post. 4 weeks ago an opportunity for free accommodation in Saint Lucia fell into my hands. In the midst of coronavirus I decided to take a chance and said yes. I booked the hotel, flights, accommodation, and ordered coronavirus testing kits with the plan of leaving in a couple weeks. With lots of stress waiting for results, (receiving them just mere hours before the flight), and planning University work (the trip was during my second week of my final year at university), the trip was finally a go-ahead.

So in the middle of a pandemic I flew out to Saint Lucia to finally live my holiday dreams that Coronavirus had shattered so far this year. This is quite easily the craziest and most spontaneous thing I have ever done, and it feels like my soul is finally alive again.

This was never going to be an ordinary trip however, with the pandemic still in full swing, face masks, sanitiser, and PPE was mandatory the whole journey. To my delight though, we were the only people staying at the hotel for nearly the entire week. We had the pool, restaurant, bar, and even a sunset cruise to ourselves.

Each day we went on a walk guided by hotel staff (we were not allowed to leave the hotel unaccompanied due to covid), went swimming, ate amazing food, and laughed the entire time. We even got to make our own chocolate bars (we stayed at the Rabot Hotel Chocolat Hotel) which was the most amazing experience (plus my chocolate bar tastes AMAZING).

I learnt so much on this trip about Saint Lucia and the culture, and it is something I would never take for granted. I may have been bitten by bugs within every inch of my life, but it was all worth it.
