Since my Instagram series last year did so well, I am bringing it back with some fresh content! Today I am going to explain how I take instagram pictures by myself, because not all of us are blessed with having our own photographer!
I did film a video on my channel about this, but here I am going to explain it a little more. As a photography student (and lonely person), I generally end up taking most of my pictures myself, so I thought Id impart some wisdom and help you all out too!
Plan Your Shoots
The first step to taking photographs is planning your shoot! This may sound boring, but I find it usually hypes me up, and I start getting super excited about the photographs. When it comes to photography and photoshoots especially, if you fail to plan, you’re planning to fail – Benjamin Franklin.
There are three key points to plan; Place, Prop, and Outfit. I always have a lot of fun coordinating everything together, and the example I am going to use is explained in my video.
The place I decided to photograph was my back garden. I have a little wall, step, and greenery, which I thought would look very cute.
Using Props in your photographs are super important, because it creates a point of interest in your pictures. They are more natural and candid, unlike just striking a pose in front of the camera (unless that is what you like of course!). The prop I decided to use was a drink.
Finally the outfit. I personally love fashion, so I always enjoy picking an outfit. Today I chose a stripy cropped top, mom jeans, and a loose black cardigan, giving a real 90’s feel to the shoot.
Camera Setup
Now its time to set up the camera, ready for our photoshoot! Ideally you need a camera of some sort (or phone), a tripod, and remote clicker. Personally I used my camera as I can connect my phone to the camera, and use it as a remote. However there are cheap bluetooth clickers you can get on Amazon for your phone which would be perfect (might have to invest in one myself!).
Now depending on your desired photograph, the camera and angle placement has to be just right. For this shoot I was sat quite low down to the ground, so I placed my camera fairly low down, and angled it upwards (this gives the illusion that you’re taller, rather than having a camera look down on you).
Remote Clicker
Now this is where I remote clicker becomes VERY useful. Sure a timer works, but you won’t want to take lots of photographs that way, as it gets too hassle some, and you may not be in focus when you get back in frame. With a remote clicker you can just stay in the same place and take as many photographs as you want. However unless you have a view finder, you will want to take a few test shots to check the framing of the photograph before committing.
And Voila! That is how I take instagram pictures by myself! Take a look at my video on YouTube in order to get a better idea of how the whole process works, and of course follow me on Instagram.
Do you take your own Instagram Photos?
This video was a joy to watch, I really enjoyed your tips. As an anonymous blogger I find that I usually take photos without hassle, though these tips will certainly help! I’ve never planned photo shoots before, hopefully you’ll see an improvement in my photography from now on? Since my dad is a photographer, I really ought to know more.
Take care lovely, hope to see more videos and posts like this in the future!
