How I Pack My Orders! | AD

As a small business owner, how I pack up my orders is a very important aspect. Creating an experience when opening a parcel is the best way to keep loyal and returning customers (and trust me, sometimes I order from small businesses, just for the opening experience!).

So today I thought I would share how I pack all my orders (which are very cute and eco-friendly!!), because I wish id known about these things before I started my business! Hopefully I can help some of you who may just be starting, or are still new to the small business world!

The Box

Starting off with the actual box my orders come in, I love using Lil Packaging because their boxes are all plastic free, eco-friendly, and recyclable! Plus they have sizes that perfectly fit Royal Mails Large Letter dimensions, which is extremely helpful. I always think a plain brown box is cute, especially with some stickers or doodles on the front to make your packaging stand out from the get-go. That way as soon as the order arrives to your customer, they already know its from you!

I also find that cardboard boxes last a lot better in transit than bags which can get ripped easily (I learnt that the hard way!). Plus you can order these boxes in smaller quantities, so they are better for us small businesses!

The Contents

The contents of the order is where it gets super cute… I always wrap my products in tissue paper with a pretty sticker on the top! For items like my embroidery hoops I prefer to use a separate little box to keep it safe. Of course anything that is delicate I always wrap in bubble wrap (always reused from previous packaging!).

In every order I also include a little thank you note as it adds a personal touch, and is a sweet way to show your customers you appreciate them! If the order includes a piece of embroidered clothing, I add little care instructions Ive made in order to inform the customer of how to care for such a unique, hand made item.

Extras

I also include a couple extra bits with all my orders! First of all, I always include a business card. This is important for reminding the customer of your handles and website if they want to order from you again. They may also give your business card to someone else, which helps to spread the word about your business.

Next I always include an invoice. These get printed automatically for me as I ship with Royal Mail. Its a lot more professional, and describes exactly what the customer bought, and the prices incase they have any queries. Lastly I always include a coupon code for their next shop, this helps to make those customers, loyal and returning customers!

I love how personal you make the orders that you ship! It’s also amazing that you use recyclable, plastic free boxes to ship your orders!
