I kind of want to start a new series on this blog all about instagram photo inspiration. Today I am starting off with summer, and more specifically pool photos! I am so excited to share these photos with you, because photography is just my favourite thing (even though I didn’t take these particular ones!).
With summer quickly creeping up on us, I figured what better blog post than an instagram inspiration post! I don’t know about you, but I love photography and taking cute instagram photos! I have recently been to 2 pool parties, and photos obviously happened… and with so many cute ones (in my opinion!), I was so excited to do this post.
I’m going to start off with individual photo ideas, because I think that will probably be most popular, and I don’t want to share too many photos of other people!
Pineapple It Up
I must admit the first photo is my all time favourite! I have seen photos time and time again like this all over Pinterest! I decided to recreate my own, and in turn I am sharing those with you! Obviously I am bringing the pineapple back, because lets just admit it, they are hella cute and taste hella good!
Firstly I started off by holding it above my head, as I have seen so many photos like this and I just think they are so cute! The second one is another pose idea involving a pineapple, no I am not awkward af… Lastly we just popped the pineapple in the pool, don’t hate me for this classic! It would be a lot cuter if the pool was cleaner at the bottom! Ahh!!
Floaties For The Win
Next we are getting into the pool, yasss. I absolutely love the classic doughnut, unicorn, pineapple etc. floaties, but the unicorn we had, had a hole, so this watermelon pool lilo is all we had! I still think it is super cute though!
For these photos, I am wearing a swim suit instead of a bikini, and it has a really pretty back on it. I think the best way to make these photos work are to have a low angle so that the camera is at eye level, and to smile and actually have fun! Experiment with different poses, and find what feels comfortable for you. People can tell when you are trying too hard, not happy, uncomfortable, awkward etc. so just own it girl! And if your swim suit has a pretty back, WERK IT.

Take A Dip
I absolutely love this photo! So many pools have diving boards at the end, so if you do I highly recommend taking some photos on it! I personally love how this photo turned out. For this type of photo I definitely think a candid shot looks 100% better.
A major tip for this photo is again to have a low angle so that the camera is on eye level, but to also make sure you have a good posture in the photo, and straighten your back. It looks a lot more flattering, and makes for an even better instagram photo!
Close Up Poolside
At pool parties I am pretty sure we all have photos in our bikini’s and swim suits before getting in the pool, so here is an example other than the classic poses by the pool. This photo is also really easy for someone who does not actually have a pool and is just sunbathing in the garden in a swim suit!
The background is very nature-esque, filled with greenery and a pop of bright coloured flowers. This is another candid shot, which I think just looks gorgeous, especially if you are not so confident with close ups. Also I cannot stress this enough, make sure the camera is at eye level!
Test The Water
Next we are gradually transitioning into shots with friends. This particular pose can be done both alone, or with a friend. It is a classic you see on both Instagram and Pinterest time and time again! Simply sit at the edge of the pool with your feet in, and have someone take a photo directly above your head.
For this photo you may have to lean back slightly, and try to keep good posture again. You can play around with this one, maybe wear a hat, sunglasses on top of your head, read a book, drink in hand etc. there are endless options!
Underwater Shots
These last two photos are a bit harder if you do not own a go pro, however I know the later iPhones are “water resistant”, and you can buy cases etc. that may allow you to take them underwater, but I would use those with caution!
These photos are not as creative as they could be, however bearing in mind you are trying to co operate with someone else, you are underwater, and trying to stay alive, there is a lot going on! They are still cute though! The first one is simply looking at each other underwater, and the second one is swimming towards the camera!
