As a hand embroidered clothing store, it is important that you have all of the information you need for caring for your new items! We use a variety of materials and colours for our clothing, and each piece is different and unique.

Most of our items are embroidered with a backing to keep the shape and detail when embroidering, and to help protect the embroidery in order to make it last. Our denim products however do not need a backing due to the materials thick and rigid nature (hence why we love denim!), such as our jeans, shorts and overalls.

Understanding the Delicacy of Embroidered Clothing: Embroidered clothing is delicate primarily because of the intricate stitches and threadwork involved. Each stitch is meticulously crafted by hand, and the delicate threads are vulnerable to damage. Tugging, pulling, or rubbing the stitches can lead to unraveling, fraying, or disfiguration, compromising the beauty and integrity of the embroidery.

How to care for embroidered clothing:

  1. Hand Wash Only: Machine washing can be harsh on embroidered clothing, causing the threads to tangle or snag. To protect the delicate stitches, hand wash your embroidered garments using a mild detergent and lukewarm water. Gently swish the clothing in the water, avoiding any scrubbing on the stitch work.
  2. Avoid Direct Sunlight: Sunlight can fade the vibrant colors of embroidery over time. When drying embroidered clothing, choose a shaded area or lay them flat indoors to avoid direct exposure to sunlight. Hanging them to dry can distort the shape of the garment due to the weight of wet fabric.
  3. Handle with Care: Treat embroidered clothing with utmost care. Avoid tugging, pulling, or rubbing the stitches, as this can cause damage. When wearing or storing embroidered garments, be mindful of sharp objects or rough surfaces that can snag or catch on the threads.
  4. Storage Precautions: To prevent snags and preserve the embroidered details, store your clothing in a clean, dry place. Consider using acid-free tissue paper to cushion and protect the embroidery. Fold the garments carefully to avoid creasing the delicate stitches.

Embroidered clothing is a beautiful and unique art form, deserving of special care. By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your embroidered garments retain their beauty and charm for years to come. Treat them gently, hand wash them with care, and protect them from harsh elements. By doing so, you will preserve the delicate nature of embroidered clothing and continue to enjoy their timeless beauty.
